The Scores Hotel is one of over 250 British hotels in the independently managed Best Western chain. This particular property is the closest hotel in St. Andrews to the first tee of the world famous golf course.
Situated across from the Royal and Ancient Clubhouse, a total of 36 rooms have fantastic views shared between a stunning garden and the Wet Sands beach. The building itself is over a century old and comprises of a traditional Victorian era town house and the St Salvators Boy’s school – both built towards the end of the 19th century.
McMillan Furniture worked directly with Ken Mann – owner and operator of The Scores Hotel – in a 6 month project to supply and install bedroom furniture to the property’s newly formed suites.

The property The Scores Hotel is a 36 room property that overlooks St Andrews’ world famous “Old Course” and the West Sands beach. The two original parts of the property date back to 1864 and 1880 and retain many of the large drawing rooms which are today used as Junior Suites.
The brief We were tasked with the supply and installation of furniture for newly formed suite bedrooms and the conversion of basement bedrooms to Junior Suites. New furniture and fixtures were required to replace and upgrade some of the more dated items while maintaining the property’s traditional appearance and feel.
The scope Over the course of the project six suites were renewed or converted. Crucially the hotel continued to operate during the refurbishment making it a key priority to complete the work quickly, with attention to detail and with the minimum of disruption to hotel guests.
Technical design As this was a partial refit, our client was keen to continue with designs that were identical or in keeping with those used in other areas of the property. Our technical design team created production-ready CAD visuals and 3D visualisations in preparation for manufacture.
Manufacture and procurement This project required furniture in relatively small quantities and we worked closely with our manufacture and supply partners to source all furniture, fittings and equipment required for the six suites. As is the case on most projects McMillan undertakes, we were also responsible for supplying soft furnishings.
Installation and management Our installation and management team were on-site throughout the project to ensure that the fit out ran smoothly and with the minimum of disruption to the hotel’s guests. Our work at The Scores Hotel was completed within budget and to the original 6 month timescale.
